Our stance on AI.
No creative work for a Yellow Dice game is ever AI-generated. Not the portrait, not the board, not the box, not the photography. Ever.
We’d rather say this plainly than let you wonder. When you order a game with an illustration in it, a person named Rolly, Jipaw or Erwin sits down and draws it from your photographs, and gets paid for doing so. That’s the product. It’s also the reason the illustrated game takes about a week rather than about a minute.
Never AI
- Illustrations of you, or of anyone you're gifting to
- Game board art, box covers or card back designs
- Photographs or video of the finished products
- Any artwork we describe as hand-drawn
Where we do use it
- Building and maintaining this website's code
- Drafting and editing some of the words you're reading
- Admin, scheduling and internal notes
- Sorting and tidying your questionnaire answers before an artist reads them
We’re a very small studio. Using AI for code and admin is how one person can run a shop like this at all — and it keeps the money where it belongs, which is with the illustrators.
Why we bother saying it
The personalized-gift category has filled up with shops that run your photo through a model and call the output custom art. It’s fast and it’s cheap and from a distance it can look similar. Up close, on a board that someone is going to keep in a cupboard for fifteen years, it isn’t.
We think you should know which one you’re buying. If a competitor won’t tell you how their artwork was made, that’s usually the answer.
If you ever receive something from us that you think was generated, tell us and we’ll remake it. That offer is open permanently.
